From AI-assisted to AI-delivered: what actually changed
The shift is not a better autocomplete. The engineer’s job moves from typing to specifying, reviewing and deciding.
Two ways of working
In AI-assisted work the developer drives and the AI suggests snippets. Hands stay on the keyboard.
In AI-delivered work Claude is the main implementer. The developer writes a clear specification, keeps the repo’s guardrails current, and delegates the build. The human role becomes specifying, reviewing and deciding.
Why we made the move
Leverage: one engineer can ship the output of several by orchestrating Claude well. Consistency: written guardrails make every change follow the repo’s standards by default. Quality: review attention shifts from typing to judgement. Pace: faster cycles on standard work free time for tech debt and security.
What it demands
Clear specifications before any code. Guardrails that stay current. Disciplined review, because AI output is never trusted automatically. And measurement, so we know the shift is real rather than assumed.
